We headed down to Illinois Friday night October 24th. Josh's mom's birthday was on Sunday October 26th. We don't think that Ben likes to ride in the dark, poor Ben cried the last hour to Nana's house. Saturday morning Jacob got on his farmer outfit and headed out to the farm. They were out at the farm for over three hours. Jacob rode with great grandpa in the cab with the tractor, he got to see a cow surgery and feed the calves. Great Grandpa even let Jacob steer for a bit. He was so thrilled about actually driving the tractor.
Saturday evening Papa came home from the National FFA conference in Indianapolis. Sunday morning we went to church with Josh's parents. Then we headed to Rockford to take Nana out to eat at Red Lobster for her birthday. They have incredible rolls there!! We never feel like we have enough time to see and do everything we would like to do when we are there.

Pumpkins

We picked up pumpkins for the boys the day we went to the Harvest Festival where all the tractors were. I thought it would be fun to take pictures of the boys with their pumpkins. I tried to take a picture without Ben's nuk. However he decided to try eating the stem since he didn't have a nuk in his mouth. He is on tooth #6 which came thru yesterday!! Ben is cruising around and looking for all sorts of trouble.

Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom's House

We had a busy week last week. It started off with Josh's doctor appointment mentioned in the last blog. Tuesday was the MOPS group at our church. It was our first time. The boys did great with the childcare. Trying to get them packed and back in the truck was another story. Thankfully Aunt Becky was there to help us out a bit.

Wednesday evening was AWANA at church. Jacob loves going to Honeybees. He always is saying "buzz, buzz", which is part of the Honeybee song. He also has been able to tell us a little of what stories they talk about in Honeybees and in Sunday school class. The first time was about Noah building the ark. All week we talked about Noah, the ark, the animals and the rainbow.

Saturday morning was swim class. Jacob and Benjamin started to get runny noses on Thursday, Jacob actually sounded horrible on Thursday. However, on Saturday he started to sound better, so we thought we might be able to go to swim class. The boys love swimming, so they get very dissappointted to miss a lesson. So, we went to swimming. Ben was a little fish in the water. Even the instructor commented on how comfortable in the water he is. Jacob swam very well also. He gets in and acts like a pro, especially since he has an idea of what they are going to do since he watches Ben's class first.

After swim class we rushed home, packed the truck up and Jacob, Ben and I headed up to Grandpa Tom and Grandma Pat's house. Josh stayed home and put tons of insulation in the attick on Saturday. Sunday he worked on AWANA stuff. Tonight he went to basketball and hurt his ankle. We shall see how he is doing in the morning.

So, we got up to Grandpa Tom and Grandma Pat's house for lunch. Jake took a nap and Ben, Grandma Pat and I went to a baby shower for one of my cousins. Jacob got to go outside and play in Grandma's garden, he prefers it over the sand box. It must make him feel like he is in the field with his tractors. I was able to get some work done for work and Grandma gracously got the boys a few outfits and did quite a bit of laundry for us. Aren't moms/grandmas great!!!

We have also had our share of excitement while at grandma and grandpa's house. Ben started crawling forwards on Friday and has mastered it while at grandma and grandpa's house. Watch out world here comes Benjamin. Sunday Grandma noticed that Ben had gotten another tooth, so he is up to 5 teeth total with another one just about ready to pop thru. I have also had the challenge of having two very mobile and independant little boys. Ben got ahold of Jacob's sippy cup. Jacob was not happy and took it away and started to hit Ben on the head with the sippy cup. Let's say mommy was not very happy. Jacob recieved a 5 minute time out, which he cried the entire time. You could tell after I told him not to do it, he felt bad about it, but he was still responsible for his actions. It is difficult because Jacob thinks Ben should get time outs and be as responsible for his actions as he is, however, Benjamin is only 8 months old and doesn't understand. So, we are working on sharing and not taking toys out of our brother's hands. We are also working on not getting so upset or throwing tantrums when things do not go our way. Jacob is getting really good at counting from 1 to 10.

Waiting....

We had another doctor appointment for Josh today. I was not planning on going to this appointment, but then thought maybe I should. The boys and I decided to meet Josh for lunch at Noodles and then we went to the doctor appointment. The doctor pretty much told us what he had told us at the last appointment. It is a Bosniak 2F renal cyst. Typically 2f's they watch to see if there is any change or not over time. If there is change they remove it, if not they leave it as is and assume it is a simple cyst. So now we wait for six months and then they will do another CT scan and an ultrasound. The doctor was going to do a MRI, however since Josh had such a reaction to the one last week, he is opting to do the CT scan and ultrasound. I was having a difficult time with the thought of waiting and with having the surgery. Now it is time for me to put my faith into action and trust that God has it all worked out. To remind myself that He is in control. God doesn't promise that life as a follower of Him will be easy. However, he does promise to be our rock and fortress.

This prayer is David's prayer for victory in battle. I find great comfort in the verses above and I claim them as my prayers. As Josh and I face the battle of the unknown, we have comfort that God has it all worked out. It will not be easy, but there is hope.

Our Blessings

Jacob likes to make people laugh. He tells me he has to go to work and he takes his camera and takes pictures. Unfortunately, he forgot his camera in Grandpa Tom's truck. So, now he takes his cell phone and elmo pumpkin to work instead. - 2 years 3 months old

Molly likes to make everyone think she is a neglected dog. However, how can you feel neglected when you have two boys to watch out for. - 4 years 6 months old


Benjamin likes to make people laugh too. It is so fun to see Jacob and Ben see each other in the morning. Jacob always has to know where Ben is and then they see each other and get so excited. Ben also likes to pull hair and pound on things. He is a mover and a shaker and keeps me on my toes. He crawls backwards and is either getting at the DVD player or getting stuck by the couch. - almost 8 months old

What do they all have in common, they are loved very much by Josh and I, and they all love balls.

Ben has Four Teeth

I almost forgot. How could I when I got bit in swim class yesterday. Ben got his first tooth around September 11th, it was the bottom one on the left. Then he got three of them at one time on the first of October. He got the other bottom tooth and the two top teeth. So, he is well on his way to a full set of teeth. You can kind of see the bottom ones on the picture.

Pioneer Days

A co-worker of Josh's had given him information on Pioneer Days in Oak Creek. So, after swim classes on Saturday morning we headed down to Oak Creek to see tractors, more tractors and more tractors. It was a fun time seeing old tractors, a thrasher, and a planer that was operated by a tractor. Jacob was shy at first, but then he kept saying "Dad there is another one, there is another one." They also had toy tractors for sale, Jacob was in little boy heaven. There was one trailer we would go thru and then he would walk back in again to look at all the different toy tractors. Ben seemed to enjoy watching everything too. Really I think he wanted to walk around with Jacob and dad. I am not sure I am ready for that quite yet, he is only going to be 8 months old in 3 days. We also picked up a pie from the Elegant farmer for our evening with some friends.
Saturday evening we went over to our friends the Buntrock's house. They have two little boys, Casey who is two and Caleb is almost 4 months old. Our friends the Tulley's were there also. They have a daughter named Lauren who is about 4 weeks old. It was the first time we all got to see Lauren. What a sweet little girl.
So, Jacob and Casey are both 2 and they are both potty training. I took Jacob to the bathroom to go potty and Casey joined us. If you ever want to be entertained go into the bathroom with two little boys and a truck book. Jacob is not the quickest, so Casey sang us I Have the Joy in My Heart. Then they started to look at a truck book. they were naming the trucks and sliding the panels to see what trucks were below the panels. Then they came to a skid steer. Jacob insists to call them "bobcats". Jacob called it a bobcat, I called it a skid steer and Casey said, "No, it is a small escavator." I said no, it is a skid steer and Jacob said very seriously, "No mom, it is a small escavator." Like Casey knows what it is and mom you have no clue. So, I was outnumbered by two year olds.
Jacob and Casey enjoyed playing together, they were so fun to watch. Ben kept watching them and trying to keep up, but since he can only crawl backwords, he couldn't get very far.

Zoo Play Date

We headed to the zoo on Thursday 10/9 for a Play Date with our friends Amy & Isaac Gruetzmacher. We woke up early to take Josh to work after picking him up the day before from the serious reaction he had from the die they gave him during an MRI he had. We stopped by Kirk and Andrea Stache's house to see Andrea and Hannah. Then it was off to the zoo. It was more busy than I thought it would be, however it was a beautiful day. Jacob had fun with Issac as they looked at monkeys, bears and cows together. Issacc is about 16 months old, so he is between Jacob and Ben. It was fun to see the different stages.

Updates....

If only I was as up to date on my blog as many of our friends are. Unfortunately, I am not. A lot of things have happened in the last month and a half. We have had a couple of trips to Grandma Pa and Grandpa Tom's house and a couple of trips to Nana and Papa's house.

Friday September 12th, we received a call from Josh's sister Alisha, that they were told that Grandma Toepfer had choked on something and was without air for some time. I had called Josh to let him know and immediately made arrangements for us to head down to Illinois that weekend. We had talked about Josh going down on Friday evening to see his grandmother and then the boys and I would head down on Saturday after swim lessons. We were not sure how Jacob would do seeing grandma Toepfer in the hospital on life support. We received a call an hour or two later, that she past away shortly after Josh's dad got to the hosptial. So, we decided to go as a family down to Illinois after swim lessons. We were not sure if we should explain to Jacob what was happening or just see if he had questions. How much would he really understand? We answered a few questions, but really he was just happy to see Nana, Papa, Great Grandpa Toepfer, Great Grandma & Grandpa Schultz, Aunt Alisha, Aunt Trisha and Abigail. Abigail is Josh's sister's youngest daughter, she is about a month younger than Benjamin. I think it helped Josh's dad and grandfather to see Jacob, Benjamin and Abigail. After Josh's Uncle Vic had talked with Grandpa Toepfer, he really felt that Grandma had a heart attack while she was eating. God decided it was time to take her home. The family has comfort in the hope that they will see her again one day in heaven. Many tears have been shed, as she will be deaply missed. She loved her family dearly, the Pastor's words at the funeral focused around Proverbs 31. I think it is an awsome testimony to be spoken of in that way! She was a very dear Grandmother-in-law and reminded me a lot of my own Grandma Koenig, I look forward to seeing them again in heaven one day.
The following Thursday Josh had an appointment with a urologist to review the results from a CT scan he had done the first Saturday in September. I guess I should begin with the end of August. I had scheduled Josh to go in to see Dr. Amy the chiropractor. He had been complaining of pain in his lower back. Since he was having pain, she wanted to take an x-ray. On the x-ray there was something suspicous and she recommended he see his regular doctor. So he followed up with Dr. Misorski at the Waukesha Aurora Clinic, his regular doctor. Dr. Misorski thought it was justifiable to get either an x-ray or CT scan done. An x-ray would be cheaper, so my frugal husband opted for the x-ray. The radiologist said that it was still questionable and recommended a CT scan be done.
Dr. Misorski scheduled a CT scan and a follow up with a urologist. That brings us to the Thursday appointment with Dr. Mark Waples. Dr. Waples said there is still concern from the CT scan2F. They had determined he had a Bosniak 2F cyst on his kidney. He scheduled an ultrasound to get more information. On the Bosniak scale a 2F is kind of a greay area. For a 1 they do not do anything and just monitor it, 3's and 4's they automatically remove. A 2F they can remove or continue to monitor it for growth. The ultrasound was scheduled for 9/25 and the follow-up appointment on 9/29.
Josh's mom came up to take care of Jacob and Benjamin so I could go to the appointment. I think we both went into the appointment thinking he would tell us it was nothing and that would be it. However, he did not. Dr. Waples told us that he had a Bosniak 2F cyst that was very suspicious and he recommended having it removed to make sure it was not cancerous. He told us that if it was determined to be cancerous that there was a 90% cure rate, since it was caught so early. Josh took it all in strides, I however freaked out. I know God allows things to happen for a reason, but to tell me my 31 year old husband has a high chance of having cancer was a little more than I thought I could handle. We had dealt with the loss of 4 unborn children, was that to prepare us for this?
Then I was to come home and tell my mother-in-law that her son might have cancer. Josh's aunt is battling cancer right now and he had a cousin who had lost a fight with cancer in August of 2005. She was only 30 years old. I had a long talk with God and I called a dear friend to talk through things before I came home. Josh also came home early from work to process things and to spend some time with the boys, his sister and his mom.
Dr. Waples also recommended another specialized CT scan to determine were blood vessels where and to get a surgical plan. So that was scheduled for 10/1 with a follow up appointment on 10/7. Josh's mom again came up to watch the boys while we went to the doctors appointment on 10/7. We were hoping to finalize plans with the surgery, however, Dr. Waples thought he was bringing better news. He came into the room and asked if Josh had ever gotten hit on that side during basketball. Josh said no, but he had gotten a few memorable hits during football. He was the quarterback of his high school football team. Dr. Waples told us that one of the radiologist who is highly respected said that after he looked at the specialized CT and the previous ultrasound that maybe what they were looking at was a cyst on the kidney that had ruptured and the blood calcified and created the tumor. If that is the case, it was not cancerous. But there was no guarentee that is what it was. The only way they could tell, is if they removed it. So, doctor Waples recommended waiting and in 4-6 months scheduling an MRI to see if there was any change or growth. He also told us that he could order an MRI in the next week to give them an apple to apple comparison, instead of trying to compare the CT scans to an MRI. I should have been thrilled, but I was not. I felt like the waiting game was just pulling us along. On one hand I am not the best at waiting, on the other hand, the surgery is pretty evasive, there is risk of infection, there would be a long recovery period and etc.
So, Josh had an MRI scheduled the next morning. He had had two CT scans already, I was expecting my normal call after his scan. However, I did not get the usual call. Josh called and sounded horrible and he said he felt horrible. He felt sick to his stomach and thought maybe he should come home. I asked if he wanted me to come get him, and he did. That was very unusual for Josh. Then when I got to work, he asked me to come up to his desk to get him. That was even more unusual. When Jacob, Ben and I got up to his desk he had thrown up and was crouched over at his desk. I was ready to take him to the emergency room. The urologist had given us no warning this would happen, the MRI tech had not said anything. I was shocked they had let him leave the radiology department. So, we got home and I called Dr. Waples. He was pretty suprised with the reaction and told me to bring him back to St. Luke's to have some anti-nautia medicine given to him. So, we packed up once again and headed back to St. Luke's. They checked him to make sure he did not have a rash. They said he is sensitive to Gallium, but it wasn't an allergic reaction. When he has a scan again they will give him something before hand to prevent the same reaction. Needless to say it was a little crazy. Jacob and Ben were troopers and did great under all the circumstances.
Tomorrow he has another appointment with Dr. Waples. I will not be going to this appointment. Pray for clear direction and guidance. We will keep you updated on what will happen next.

Grandparents & Nana and Papa

Last weekend we went up to see Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom. Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom graciously babysat on Friday evening so that Josh and I could go out on a date. We have become very fond of going for long walks and then heading to Starbucks to meet up with a friend and play Uno.
Saturday we took Jacob and Benjamin to the Manitowoc County Fair. Jacob was in little boy heaven. He got to see cows, horses, bunny rabbits and goats. He got to see tractors and touched all the bobcats (skidstears). He also got to ride on the carousel, the tea cups, trucks and bumble bee rides. We also took him to the demolition derby that night at the grandstand. Both Benjamin and Jacob were enthralled by the demolition derby. It got kind of loud at the demo derby for Benjamin, so Grandma Pat, Ben and I waited outside the grandstand area for Jacob, Grandpa Tom and Josh.
This weekend we traveled down to Illinois to see Nana and Papa. Jacob got to go the farm and ride tractors, feed calves, torment kitties, eat apples and just hang out with great grandpa Schultz, Great Uncle Ronnie and Great Uncle Gerald. Then we went to Krape Park for a picnic lunch and Jacob got to ride on the carousel.
Today, we went to a parade in Shannon, IL. We got to see fire trucks, more tractors and some horses. Then we headed over to Great Uncle Ronnie's for a gathering of the Schultz family. Great Uncle Ronnie has lots of John Deere tractor things. It took every once of Jacob's discipline to not touch the John Deere tractor things.
This coming week is very busy. I have work to catch up on. AWANA starts up and Josh has a test on Saturday morning.
Also, for those of you who don't know, Josh has accepted a position as the assistant varsity girls basketball coach at North High School. Josh is very passionate about basketball and he is very good at coaching. The boys will enjoy going to games and rooting on dad's team. We will see how mom does trying to keep up with everything...

"I can only imagine"

Can you imagine what it will be like when we are in the presence of God. Seeing Jesus for the first time. What an incredible opportunity to look forward to. As the Lord allows different circumstances to enter into our lives, we look forward to the day when there will be no more tears, no more pain and our bodies will be perfect. No more diseases, cancer, or deterioration.

Catching Up!!

So, it has been a while since I updated the blog and since I can't sleep, what better time than now. Ben will be 6 months old on Friday, so it is almost 2 months since I blogged. I was hoping to add pictures from our birthday party celebrations for Jacob, however, I have misplaced the memory sticks.
We celebrated Jacob's birthday in Illinois 4th of July weekend. Great Grandma Schultz made him a birthday cake in the shape of a cow. He was thrilled. He also got to ride on the tractor and feed the cows. What more could a two year old ask for on his birthday. Oh yes, he also received toy tractors, trucks and a golf set. He loves the golf set, however, he likes to use the golf clubs to boss Molly around.
The weekend after we celebrated at Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom's house. Uncle Andy and Uncle T.J. were there too. Grandma Pat made homemade pizza and got a Harley Davidson cake for Jacob and Grandpa Tom. Grandpa Tom turned 61 the day after Jacob turned 2.
Oh yes, and how could I forget. Grandma Pat got Jacob a new car seat for his birthday. It was time for everyone to move up. Previously I had been riding in the back when we traveled, Molly our black lab who thinks she is a person rode in the front seat. Did I mention Molly is afraid of bags and things falling. That is why she has the front seat, and honestly with all of us there is no room in the back of the Jimmy for her with all the luggage. So back to the new car seats, the boys both have plenty of room and fit comfy in their new seats. Unfortunately, no one can sit in between them now. So we ventured to Sheboygan in search of a luggage rack for the top of the Jimmy. So, we are now proud owners of a roof top luggage rack and I get to ride in the front seat and Molly has the back all to herself.
The day we got back from Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom's house, I started working again for Milwaukee Stove. It is a huge blessing to be able to work from home and still be able to use my degree. So, we have been adjusting to having me working again. They must have missed me at Milwaukee Stove though, they have been keeping me pretty busy.
A couple of weeks ago we decided to build a sand box for Jacob. It is huge and he loves it!! My dad came down to help us pick up the wood. I will have to upload pictures later, it has been a great way to invite our neighbors with kids over to get to know them better.
Besides that Ben has been rolling and rolling and trying to crawl. He wants to run and play with his big brother so badly and Jacob wants to play with him too. They love to play on our bed. They look at each other and Jacob does silly things to get Benjamin to laugh.
Ben also has been sick the last week and sounds pretty rough. About a month ago he was diagnosed with croup. Then last week Friday they said he had the hand, foot, mouth virus. During this whole time he has had a cough, actually since the beginning of May he has had a cough it gets worse when he is sick. So on August 21st we have an appointment with an ears, nose, throat doctor to make sure he does not have a hemangeoma in his throat. He has one on the top of his head, so it is possible there might be one in his throat. If there is one there, hopefully it is small enough and will start to decrease in size so that they will not need to put him on steroids or do any surgery. So we are anxiously awaiting that appointment.
I think that brings us up to speed.

Ben is 4 months old!!!

Ben turned 4 months old on June 15th. My little baby is growing up. Friday June 18th we had his 4 month check-up and shots. He weighs 18 lbs. 3 oz. and is 25 3/4" long. He had a slight fever after his shots, but otherwise he did fine.

So, what has been happening in the life of the Toepfer's. Saturday evening we had a cook out at Buckner Park in Waukesha with our friends from England. It was actually an old Crossroads get together. It was fun to see old friends. Jacob played with his new girlfriend Ella Stevens.

Sunday evening we went to church to hear Darin and Joy give a report of their ministry in England. Jacob and Ella had Aunt Becky and Uncle Brian hopping. They didn't make it through the whole service and ended up going outside and getting soaked in the water puddles. Afterwards, we caught a quick bite with Becky and Brian. Jacob was tickled to have supper with Brian and Becky. Becky thought she was chop liver with Brian around. Umm, mom and dad were really chop liver. At least Ben still likes to hang out with us.

Monday morning we called Grandma Pat to see if she had off of work. She did, so we headed up to get the next size clothes for Ben. He is having his growth spurt a little later than Jacob did, but nevertheless, he is growing like crazy. So my 4 month old is wearing 18 month and 24 month clothes. He is a happy baby most of the time and that is all that matters.

We also went to see Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Schneider. They are living in an apartment now and I didn't know how to get there so Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom came a long. Thankfully they did. Jacob ran around the main area of the apartment complex like a crazy boy. Grandma Pat helped with Benjamin and Grandpa Tom helped with Jacob. My grandfather has Alzheimer's, he is on medicine and didn't do to bad when we were there. I did have to retrieve him out of someone else's apartment, but at least he recognized me and asked about Josh and Molly.

Next week begins the two week celebration of Jacob's birthday. Next Thursday, late afternoon, we will be going down to Illinois. Jacob will get to go to the farm and feed the calves, he is pretty excited about that, and riding on Great Grandpa's big John Deer tractors. Most of them are actually Great Uncle Ronnie's. Great Grandma Schultz and I will attempt to make a barn cake and a cow cake for his party on Sunday. We get to meet our niece Abigail and we get to see Tricia, Brian, and Kaitlyn. Jacob is also excited to get to go to Nana and Papa's house. If Jacob could he would take Papa and Grandpa Tom home when we leave their houses. It is kind of funny.

The following week we head up to Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom's house. Jacob gets to celebrate his birthday with Grandpa Tom. They will be getting a Harley Davidson Motorcycle cake. Grandpa Tom will be 61 on July 15th and Jacob turns 2 on July 14th. Uncle T.J. and Uncle Andy will be their, it will be the first time we are all together since before Benjamin was born.

Hmmmmmm, so we started potty training Jacob. I know it is a little early, but he was really showing signs that he was ready. He went potty on the big potty 2 times today. Who knew that going potty could be so funny. To a little boy it is just hilarious. I am not sure if girls think it is as funny. We had one accident in the office, so not to bad. I have no expectations, since he is not 2 yet, but I didn't want to deter him from not trying. He has a hard time focusing, so it may take a while.

We are also officially in the terrible two's. I am not sure I am ready for this in another year. We might send Jacob to the farm for a couple of weeks to wear himself out. Just kidding, however the thought has crossed our minds. As Great Grandpa Schultz says, in a couple of years he can "vacation" on the farm.

P.S. My mom says that neither I nor my brothers were quite as intense as what Jacob is. In the process of minutes he let both of my brother's dogs out and they ran away and he was caught playing with the cat poop. We did get the dogs back and Grandma Pat disinfected his hands. She is a germ freak, so his hands were literally disinfected.

Family, Friends and Fun!!

We have been on the go since last week Wednesday. I can't believe everything we have done in the last week. Josh and I decided to go down to Illinois last week Wednesday. He was kind of slow at work and his grandma and grandpa Toepfer are not doing so well, so we took a trip down to see Josh's family. Before we left Josh needed to finish up a few things at work, so we went to a play date at the zoo. It was my first time at the zoo with the boys, by myself. Thankfully we were with lots of friends who helped out!! Their help was much appreciated. Oh yes, and before we went to the zoo, I got the boys in for a quick chiropractor appointment. They were suppose to go on Thursday, but since we wanted to head down to Illinois I got them in sooner.
It was a cozy trip down to Illinois. Molly our black lab is a big scary cat and freaks out when she is in back of our Jimmy with the luggage. It is like the sky is falling. So Miss Molly rides in the front seat and I ride in the back with the boys. It is a tight fit, but for now it is nice to be back there in case Ben needs a bottle or anything else. Jacob went to the farm two mornings, he fed the calves with Josh's cousin Emily, rode on tractors with Great Grandpa Shultz and saw a baby calf just after it was born. What more fun could a toddler have. The second morning he came back with manure all over the bottom of his shoes. We may have to invest in some rubber boots for the next time. We took a ride into Lanark to see Great Grandma Schultz. Friday mornings Nana does hair for a couple of ladies. One of the ladies has a daughter who use to teach named Rhonda. Jacob loves to hang out with Rhonda. They watch Pager's, that is Aunt Alisha's cat and Maggie, Aunt Alisha's dog. Jacob love to say "Hi" to them like they can understand him. He also likes to boss Page around. She looks at him and walks away. It is pretty entertaining. Saturday Josh and Jacob went to see Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Toepfer. Benjamin was sleeping so I stayed with him. Papa went along to cut the grass for Great Grandma and Grandpa. Saturday afternoon we headed back home.
Father's Day we spent with Grandma Pat, Grandpa Tom and Uncle T.J. , Uncle Andy had to work. We went to church and then met at T.J.'s house. We went to Chili's for lunch to celebrate Father's Day and Uncle T.J.'s birthday which was on the 12th.
Monday we cleaned and finished unpacking. Uncle Andy called and asked to come over for a bit. He was down at the VA Hospital for an eye doctor appointment and needed to go back later for an eye glasses fitting. So we got to spend time with Uncle Andy which was nice. Jacob loves his truck it is very loud. He also gets confused and calls him Uncle T.J. a lot. Andy held Benjamin for the first time. Ben is finally getting to the stage where you don't feel like you might break him. Ben thought Andy was funny. Monday evening my husband sat in the living room staring down 3 rabbits in our front yard. As soon as they went in back he sent Molly after them. Then he talked about getting a Bebe gun. I don't think you can shoot rabbits in the city hunny. I told him to put his fence up. It took him a while but his garden is protected by a 30" high fence. He can sleep soundly at night knowing his vegetables are protected from the rabbits. Ben and I decided Josh was a little goofy that night.
Tuesday evening we had friends that are missionaries in England come to visit. We had a great time with Darin and Joy catching up. They have two girls, Ella who is 2 1/2 and Kiera who is 1. Josh tried to brush up on his British terminology. He was a little off.
That brings us to today. This morning we had one of our neighbor boys come over to play. Poor little Andrew didn't know what to do. His older sister Lilly is in day care and he seems so lost without her. Maybe Jacob can break him out of his shell. Then at lunchtime Joy stopped by with Ella and Kiera. We had lunch and then Jacob, Ella and Kiera played for a bit before nap-time. They are just adorable. Jacob went to bed yelling for Ella. Then we took a walk to Mike and Karen Good's to drop off the booster seat that we forgot to send back with Joy. Ben was in the baby Bjorn, Jacob in his wagon with the booster seat and Molly. If you ever want some good entertainment, you should see me walking with my small pose. My neighbors must think I am crazy. I know they already laugh at me when I cut my yard with my manual lawn mower. Like I always say, there is never a dull moment in the Toepfer household.

Oh yes, I also came to the realization this weekend that my baby is going to be turning 2 years old. It feels like just yesterday we were anxiously awaiting Jacobs arrival. We waited so long for him and the Lord has blessed us so very much. I can't imagine life with out the two little boys that God has borrowed to us.

Weekend at Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom's

This past weekend we went to Grandma Pat's house and Grandpa Tom's house. My cousin Becky was getting married and I thought it would be a great time for Ben to see some of our extended family. I am just not use to getting 2 extra people ready for a special event yet. Especially a little one who has random growth spurts. Actually it probably is the loss of sleep. Ben still is not totally recovered from being sick. Jacob and Benjamin went into the doctor last Thursday before we left. Friday I had to collect some samples to send into the lab so we could make sure they don't have anything more serious. Jacob is doing much better, however Ben is still not back to normal. Hopefully we will find out tomorrow what is going on with him.

We were not able to leave till Saturday morning, because Jacob had his last swim class for the session. So we headed up to meet my parents at the Sheboygan Northside Wal-mart were Grandma Pat works. They were having a car show at Wal-mart. Grandma was all excited to show Jacob a Duke's of Hazard car that was actually used in the show and was signed by all the cast members. It was cool till we found out who owned the car. (It is a really long story.) So then we rushed home to my parents house to eat and get the boys down for a nap. Grandpa Tom and Josh stayed with the boys, while my mom and I went to the wedding. It was a beautiful wedding.
We headed to the reception in Two Rivers and thought we would have a nice evening with family. We haven't been out much at night because Ben doesn't do well. Since we haven't been out in a while we forgot. Sooo, I spend half the evening and Grandma Pat the other half trying to calm Ben down. Thankfully my Aunt Julie had a room were the reception was at and a laptop computer and classical music. It is amazing how classical music can turn one upset little baby into a sleeping baby.
The weekend did not go quite as I hoped, but now days, I never know what to expect. The only thing I do know, is that Josh and I are very blessed to have two little boys. We are so thankful for them, they are tons of fun even with the not-so-fun things that happen. I wish I could write down all the funny things Jacob does, however if I did, I would miss some of them. His new thing to do is to drink out of a plastic mug I have. He goes into the fridge and gets water and walks around just like he sees me and sips it like it is tea or something. He is can be quite the funny little man.

No More Sickness, Please!!!

We were so looking forward to having a nice relaxing weekend at home. We had planned to see my Aunt Julie and Uncle Jeff and their daughters Kim and Ali in Johnson Creek. They were up from Indiana picking Ali up from school. We had also planned to go to our friends Mike and Karen's house on Memorial Day. We unfortunately did not do any of that.
Thursday Jacob tossed his cookies and had very messy diapers, then Friday Ben tossed his cookies and had very messy diapers, Sunday was my turn to toss my cookies. Josh was the only one who did not get sick. On top of it Jacob, Ben and I all have been fighting colds tooo. Plus, Memorial Day was 80+ degrees and humid, not so fun when you are sick. Jacob you can not tell is sick by the way he runs around the house creating what was clean order into utter chaos. Who would have thought this sweet little toddler could be so messy. He can take a room in 5 minutes and make it look like a tornado hit the house. He can even make it look like he is playing and not intentionally just making a mess.
Besides being sick this past week was filled with chiropractor appointments for Jacob and Ben. We decided to take both the boys. Hopefully, it will mean less sickness in the long run, we can only hope. Jacob was pretty out of align after the spill down Grandma Pat's hill, so it was good to get him in.
So, besides getting puked on this weekend and the endless dirty diapers, I am really ready for all of us to be healthy and to enjoy being outside.
Oh yeah, how could I forget, last weekend our lawn more broke. So, we decided to be earth friendly and by a non-gas, non-electric push lawn more. It is not really that bad and it saves gas. However, Thursday evening when I was cutting the grass one of our neighbors was laughing at me and shaking his head. Why pay to go to the YMCA or Bally's to work out when you can mow your own lawn and save the environment!!! There is really never a dull moment in the Toepfer household.

Update on Jacob...

Sorry, I forgot to mention the results of Jacob's x-ray. All is fine, no broken bones. :O)

First X-ray....

So last week we spent part of the week at Grandma Pat's house and Grandpa Tom's house. What fun a whole acre for Molly and Jacob to play on, a swing set with a slide and sand box. However, their house is built on a hill and Jacob decided to run down the high part of the hill. It was like a slow moving movie. Unfortunately, I was not able to catch him in time. He ran, tripped and fell half way down and then rolled the rest of the way down. He couldn't walk after he got up and kept falling back down. I was a little concerned and brought him into the house. He crawled around on the floor for about an hour after he tried walking a couple of times. We called our pediatrician and she recommended getting it x-rayed. However, when I took him to the doctor in Sheboygan, he talked me out of getting an x-ray and said let's wait and see. I should have insisted on an x-ray, for my piece of mind. He started to run on it later that evening, however he would limp every once in a while. So, Wednesday, Uncle Andy was going to an appointment at the VA hospital so Grandpa Tom, Jacob and I tagged along. Jacob had an x-ray done at Children's. Uncle Andy went to visit Great Aunt Gracie while we were at Children's. She was in the hospital for a month and is now back home.
We came back on Thursday and had a whirl wind Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday we decided to get Jacob out of the house and went to the zoo, came home, napped, uncle T.J. came over and we ordered Chinese, (Jacob had hot dogs and fries, he thought that there should be French Fries in the Chinese Carry-0ut bag) Jacob and I rushed to the airport to see Josh get off the plane, stopped at Pick-n-save to get a few things we needed. Saturday started off with swim class, Grandma Pat was able to see Jacob swim and splash. Then we cleaned like mad, went to Walmart to get things we needed for Sunday, cleaned some more, went to Walmart to pick up things we forgot the first time and finally went to bed. Sunday was baby dedication for Benjamin and we had grandma Pat, grandpa Tom, Uncle T.J., Nana, Papa, and Aunt Alisha over for Papa Murphy's pizza and cake!!!
This week has been adjusting to being back home and having Josh home again. Last week he was in California for a conference. Ben has been talking up a storm and laughing and giggling. He is quite the little jumping bean.

Toddlerhood the saga continues

So, I called the Poison Control Center for the third time. I talked with nurse Laura again. Jacob decided he wanted to see what Aveeno Baby Diaper Rash Cream tastes like. The nurse assured me that he would be fine, it may act like a laxative, but otherwise it is not toxic. She also assured me that somehow little boys make it thru toddler hood. God really has a sense of humor when it comes to how he designed little boys thru the toddler years.

Busy, Busy, Busy

O.K. so I am not so good at updating my blog. Things have been a little crazy lately and our computer was not working properly for a while, so hopefully I can get back to updating it more frequently.
April was a crazy month. My brother Andy moved back home from Alabama. We went home to see him the second week in April. Which also was the week before Becky Cattanach's wedding. Did I mention I stood up in Becky's wedding. It was kind of a crazy week and weekend.
I hadn't had much time to get everything ready for Becky's wedding, so the week before her wedding my mom, Ben, Jacob and I went in search for shoes and nylons. I ordered the dress while I was pregnant. Kind of crazy, but Becky is a good friend and she was my maid of honor in my wedding. The dress fit fine except for the top, so while I was at my parents house I altered that too.
The Friday before Becky's wedding my parents came down to help take care of the boys. Becky and the rest of the ladies in the wedding met for breakfast and then we went to go get our pedicures and manicures. Ben was sleeping about 5-6 hours maybe and so I almost could have fell asleep while I was having my nails done. Then I rushed to get grocery shopping done and bring home lunch for the gang. I got back and made a mad dash to Wal-mart for make-up. What??? Laura wear make-up.
That evening was the dress rehearsal, which went well, except with all the flight cancellations, the Pastor came in later that night and missed the dress rehearsal. Becky's sister Rachel stood in as Pastor for the evening. My poor mom got a taste for my nights when Josh isn't home. Ben cried almost the entire time we were gone. We decided he has colic and hoped it would go away in a month or so.
The wedding was wonderful, Becky looked like a princess, my dress fit, my hair looked great and my make-up was not too bad for a girl who doesn't wear any make-up. Jacob came in looking so handsome, I started to cry while we were getting pictures done. He wore one of my brothers old suit coat and vest. Jacob did not make it through much of the wedding, as soon as I started walking down the isle he cried out "mommy!" Talk about a whirl wind weekend.
The next Friday April 18th was Benjamin's two month check-up. I ventured to the doctor's office with Jacob and Benjamin. This was the second trip to the doctor's office that week. Jacob and Ben both had pretty bad colds on Monday. Jacob had a cough for over a month and his nose was like a leaky faucet. He was treated for a sinus infection. Ben had to tough it out on his own. Ben weighted in at 12 lbs. 2 oz. and 24 3/4" long. Ben also got his first shots and was a champ. Jacob was very concerned for his little brother. Both boys did really well at the doctor's office.

So that brings us to this past week. Josh was in Chicago Wednesday to Friday. The boys and I decided to visit Josh's family in Illnios. Nana and Aunt Alisha helped with the boys. Jacob had a blast going to Create Park (Spelling???). He also got to visit Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Schultz. It was Great Grandpa Schultz's 79th birthday and Jacob and Grandpa had a blast just goofing around. I also had a chance to take Jacob out to the family farm. He had a blast riding in a tractor, chasing kittens, mooing with the calves and hanging out with Great Grandpa.
Josh's mom does hair on Friday mornings and Jacob was entertaining the ladies in her shop Friday morning along with bossing around Page, Aunt Alisha's Kitty. He also likes Aunt Alisa's dog Maggie.
He can't wait to go back to the farm, I think we will have a hard time to get him away from there in the summertime. Great Grandpa can't wait till he can help out on the farm. He tells Jacob he will vacation on the farm.
Saturday was Jacob's first day of swim lessons again. He is in the 1-2 year old class. He had a blast splashing in the pool with his friend Cassidy. It will be fun to see him progress in the class.
Sunday morning seemed to be normal until right before church Jacob threw-up. So, for the last 3 weeks we have missed church because Jacob has been sick. Poor little guy, hopefully the weather gets warm and stays warm so he can stay healthy. Ben threw up this morning, so it has been fun in the Toepfer household. No one has gotten sick since this morning, so I think we are on the road to recovery.
I think that has been all that has been going on. We are home for a week and then we go up to Grandma and Grandpa Schneider's house. Uncle Andy's kitty just had kitten's, so that should be fun to see them. Josh will be out in San Francisco for a work conference. Then we will have Ben's baby dedication on Mother's Day. I think things slow down for a bit after that.

6 Weeks Old!!

Today Benjamin is 6 weeks old. Isn't he one of the cutest babies you have ever seen?? Actually, are not they two of the cutest boys you have seen?? We love every minute we have with these two little boys, even in the midst of our crazy lives, and Jacob's insane curiosity.
We were suppose to go down to Illinois for Easter, however the major snow storm of March of 2008 made us change our minds. We had enough driving after trying to get Molly to the vet, Benjamin to the doctor for his 1 month check-up, and picking the car up from an oil change. Saturday, we decided to get a home improvement project done that we probably should have had professionally done. Let's just say it was an experience we will never forget. In the midst of the project we did decide to go down to Illinois for the day so everyone could take baths and showers and to see Great Grandma Schultz. The project took much longer than expected and Josh had to take 2 extra days off work. Josh is back to work and we have now completed the project and will probably never do it again.
Benjamin weighted in at 9 lbs. 6 oz. at his appointment and was diagnosed with a severe case of cradle cap. I thought cradle cap was only on the child's top of their head. Oh no, Ben had it all over his face, neck, sholders, upper back and chest. Poor boy needs to be lathered in Vaseline twice a day. Supposedly it is in the same family as eczema. Besides that he is doing well and growing well. He has almost gained 3 lbs. from his birth weight!! Not quite were Jacob was, but not far behind!!

Adjustments

As we are all adjusting to the addition of Benjamin into our family, we are finding that what little time we had before has become even less. Benjamin is 18 days old and I feel like where has the time gone. I will try to update how things have gone since the night we went into the hospital before Benjamin was born.

1-14-08 Valentine's Day
What is today? Oh yes, it is Valentine's Day, the only reason I knew what day it was, was because Jacob and I went to Walmart to pick up a few things before I went into the hospital and saw the galore of Valentine's balloons, cards, flowers, candy and etc.
My friend Becky and her fiance' Brian were going to watch Jacob for an hour or so before my parents came down to take care of him. Unfortunately, Becky became sick and didn't want to get us sick. So, we called our friend Karen Good to take care of Jacob. But neither Karen or Becky needed to come because Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom had a huge snow storm at their house and left super early to get down to our house before we left for the hosptial.
So, Josh and I spent our Valentine's Day night at the hospital, checking in , getting an IV (can I tell you how much I don't like IV's) , getting medicine to start labor. I started to have steady contractions after the first dose of medicine, they didn't need to give me the other two. The contractions were not strong enough though to get me to go into active labor though. So, needless to say, we didn't get much sleep that night.

1-15-08
At 6 a.m. after getting a very few precious hours of sleep they woke me up to get a shower. Yeah!! Then they started the heavy duty IV medicine to start labor. At 8 a.m. the on call Dr. , Dr. Dolan came to break my water. Wow, I thought things were moving much quicker than with Jacob. Then maybe not, the doctor would not break my water, because the baby was too high and there was a possibility that the umbilical cord could slip down below his head and come out first. If that happened the nurse said that it was an emergency C-section. So, we waited, and waited. After 2 and half hours of pretty intense contractions, I asked for pain medicine. I would take whatever I could get. Thankfully, they called up to my doctor's office and talked to Dr. McAvoy (I had seen this doctor throughout the last 2 months of my pregnancy). Dr. McAvoy said I could have an epidural if I wanted. So, they gave me the epidural, I thought now I can make it. Once you get past the whole having a needle in your back for a couple of minutes, life is good. No more pain, just pressure. Dr. McAvoy came down to check on me and decided they could break my water. So at around 12:30 p.m.ish they broke my water. The nurse we had at the time was going to be sent home early and said, you have to have this baby before I leave so I can see what he looks like. I thought, no way, he is going to take his time. Suprise!! Benjamin made his arrival before the nurse had to leave. He almost arrived before the doctor came down. I pushed like 3 times and they were like, you better get the doctor, we see the head. Then Dr. McAvoy showed up (Dr. Dolan was on call, so we are not sure why Dr. McAvoy kept coming down. Maybe he was curious to see what Benjamin looked like too, since he had seen me towards the end of my pregnancy. Dr. McAvoy was also a resident under Dr. Kuhlman who is the perinatologist who I see for my Factor V Lieden, which is why I give myself shots in the stomach when I am pregnant.). Dr. McAvoy had me push once, then he was going to have me push again and said, wait, here he is! So, our tiny little 6 lb. 8 oz. boy with a full head of hair was placed on my chest before they washed him up and checked him out. Praise the Lord!!
After about two hours they took us up to the post-pardum floor and Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom brought Jacob to see his baby brother. Jacob didn't know what to make of Benjamin at first. He was more excited to see mom and check out all thing things in a hospital room that he could get into. My brother Uncle T.J. stopped by also to see Benjamin.

2-16-08
Josh and I got some sleep the first night. They circumcised Benjamin in the morning. Poor little guy it took quite a bit out of him. Pastor Brian Mitchel stopped by to say "Hi!" Grandma Pat, Grandpa Tom, Jacob and Uncle T.J. stopped by to visit again.

2-17-08 Going Home
There was a huge rain/ice storm in the night and morning. However we were all ready to go home. They tried to check us out as soon as they could. I think that we left by noon. We all missed Jacob, Ben didn't realize he did, but his did too. It wasn't too bad driving home when we did, but we had heard it was worse earlier. Grandpa Tom and Grandma Pat decided to stay one more day before they headed home to their enormous snowfall. Thankfully their neighbor had plowed their drive once so they could get to their house when they got home on Monday.

2-18-08 1st Doctor Visit and our little Glow Worm
We took Ben to his first doctors appointment since he was not seeming to be hydrated. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 0 0z. They also sent us to have his jaundice checked with a blood test. After going to a second lab, we finally got the blood drawn that was needed. The first lab did not accept Aurora Health Insurance. Josh was a little upset to get turned down for service because we didn't have an accepted insurance, it was like we didn't have insurance at all.
The doctor called with the results and they were higher than they wanted them to be so they prescribed a Billy Reuben blanket for Ben. The blanket was delivered by the visiting nurse association that night. He had to be on it at all times until the doctor said he did not need it any more. So, we carried Ben wrapped in a blanket connected to a cord and the machine that needed to be plugged in at all times. Needless to say we were glad when he was done. It was quite the experience.

2-19-08 Home Sweet Home
Tuesday was the only day this first week, that we were able to stay home. Yipee!!! We did however have to keep Ben on the Billy Reuben blanket
2-20-08 Doctors Appointments
Today was a very hectic day. We tried to get my low molecular weight heparin drawn. The lab was backed up and we needed to get Ben's blood drawn for his jaundice and Jacob had an eye doctor appointment. We were able to get it all done, we were a little late for Jacob's eye doctor, but we made it. Thankfully Jacob's eyes are great. He has a little astigmatism, but otherwise they are fine. Praise the Lord!! We were hoping he did not need glasses.

2-21-08 Another Doctor Appointment
Today we were back to the doctor to make sure Ben was gaining weight. At 6 lbs. 10 1/2 oz. he passed. He also was released from the Billy Reuben blanket. Yipee!!!

The rest of the next couple of weeks and days are kind of a blur.

Nana and Papa Toepfer came to visit on 2-23-08.

Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom came to visit on 3-1-08. Aunt Becky's wedding shower was that day. Grandma Pat, Ben and I went to the shower. Grandpa Tom stayed home with Jacob. Josh was at a seminar from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. Plus our garage door broke prior to that weekend also. Things were kind of crazy around here.

Jacob, Ben and I went to visit Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom on 3-5-08 thru 3-7-08. On the 7th we went to Sheboygan to see the new Super Wal-mart. It is were Grandma Pat works now on the in-stock team. Grandma Pat was able to show off her two adorable grandsons. Ben and Jacob also got their pictures taken for the official Faust Family tree records. Both Ben and Jacob's names are Faust family names. My grandmother Matilda Koenig was a Faust.

3-9-08
Sunday was the first Sunday we made it to church and we were not to bad for time. We kind of had a whirlwind day though. We went to church first service. Then we rushed to Panera to eat lunch. Did I mention that Ben is not a fast eater, actually, none of the boys are, including Josh. Then we decided to go thru Madison to go down to Illinois for Josh's grandfather's 90th birthday. Let's just say, it took a very long time to got that way. We made a 45 minute stop in Lake Mills thinking Ben had a dirty diaper and didn't (Josh thought he heard something) then when i got back to the truck, Jacob had woke up and was screaming, so what did Josh do, promise him French Fries. So I went back for French Fries to one of the slowest McDonalds I have ever been to.
Finally we made it down to Illinois, to with Josh's family for an hour or so and then head back home. The trip home took half the time as it did to get down there.

3-10-08 Wagon
Jacob and Josh put the wagon Jacob got for Christmas together. Jacob was in heaven. He sat in it the whole time. We weren't sure we would get him out of it. We thought he might even sleep in it.

3-13-08
Which brings us to today. We were able to get out of the house and pick up a few necessities and take Jacob to the Chiropractor. Besides that, we hang out here at home, changing lots of dirty diapers, feeding and trying to fit in some playtime with Jacob. Nothing can prepare you for the addition of another baby into the family. It is an adventure and I we are trying to enjoy every minute of it as it seems to fly by quickly.

Eagle Eyes

The adventures of Toddlerhood. Yesterday Jacob decided he wanted to taste what the Cascade dishwashing soap tasted like. Josh and I were right there, I was cleaning out the dishes from the dishwasher and not all of the detergent had emptied out of the cup. Usually I close the lid before he can get to it, unfortunately, I had not gotten to it before he did. He must of dipped his fingers into the remaining detergent and then stuck it in his mouth of course. He was taking his fingers out of his mouth when we caught him, I at first thought he threw up, oh no, we smelled his mouth and it had a hint of detergent smell. I frantically, read the bottle directions. So we cleaned his mouth and gave him a glass of milk per the directions. Called the pediatrician and the poison control center. Josh checked his mouth for burns, while I talked to the poison control center nurse. He thankfully had not gotten that much, so we needed to watch him and she called us back in a couple of hours to see how he was doing. He did not show any signs of trouble and he ate and drank a ton, so she said he was out of the clear. Praise the Lord! This was all after he poured out a 1/4 gallon of water on the floor after we got home from church. The joys of Toddlerhood, what happens when I do ......
I was hoping that today would be uneventful, unfortunately, I was wrong. We did pretty well we built a city our of legos, played with his buckets and his basket ball. Then I was getting lunch ready and went to the buffet cabinet to get out a cup of canned fruit and as I was shutting the door Jacob was next to me and I heard a cry. Here he had stuck his little finger in the corner of the door as I was shutting it. Now don't I feel like a horrible mother. We will see if Grandma Pat and Grandpa Tom can keep eagle eyes on Jacob this weekend. We will see if Uncle Andy gave them enough training to keep up with Jacob.
